PRESS RELEASE: Carbon Removal Canada to host COP29 panel with ministers from Quebec and Alberta

TORONTO, ON, November 8, 2024 – Carbon Removal Canada will host a panel entitled “True North, Strong and Carbon-Free: Canada’s Leadership in Carbon Removal” at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. This event will be one of several focused on technology, demonstrating the rising recognition that we cannot solve climate change without carbon removal. 

The panel will feature Alberta’s Minister of Environment and Protected Areas, the Honourable Rebecca Schulz; Quebec’s Minister of the Environment, the Fight against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks, Benoit Charette; Deep Sky’s Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Policy, Jason Vanderheyden; and Microsoft’s Director of Policy Engagement on the Environmental Sustainability Policy Team, David Frank. Co-founder and Executive Director of Carbon Removal Canada, Na’im Merchant, will moderate.

Governments across Canada have begun to modernize regulations, invest significantly, and create incentives to ignite a thriving carbon removal sector. Hear directly from provincial environment ministers on how investment tax credits, procurement programs, and R&D funding can accelerate carbon removal efforts.

Building on successes from companies such as Deep Sky, the session will also showcase private and public sector progress in advancing carbon removal, outlining a vision for the sector’s future. Stay tuned for a major announcement from Deep Sky before the panel. 

For those who can attend the event live, it will take place at the CRIN (Clean Resource Innovation Network) Pavilion on November 15 at 12 pm AZT / 3 am EST. It will also be streamed live and recorded for asynchronous viewing
